If you sell online, one moment matters more than any other each day: a payment coming in. Until now, checking it meant opening a browser, signing in to the dashboard and looking through the transaction list. There is now a faster way. The PAYWISE app for Android sends payment notifications straight to your phone, with its notification sound, even when the app is closed.
This article explains what the PAYWISE app does, how to install it safely, how to set up notification sounds, and answers the questions we hear most often.
What is the PAYWISE app?
The PAYWISE app is the official Android app for PAYWISE merchants, their teams and sales partners. It holds the same dashboard you know from the website: transactions, withdrawals, reports, payment links, API keys, websites and webhooks, support and account settings. The difference is that it is made for your phone:
- Notifications on your phone. Payment received, withdrawal paid, support replies and security notices appear on your lock screen and in the notification shade.
- A different sound for each kind of notification. You know money came in without looking at the screen.
- Opens full screen like any app. No browser address bar, no mixed-up tabs.
- The same account. Sign in with the same email and password, including the two-step email code. No new sign-up.
The app is free and adds no fee to your transactions. It is small, under 2 MB, so it won't fill up your phone.
Why phone notifications matter for merchants
How fast a payment is confirmed shapes your buyer's experience. Once a buyer has paid with QRIS and is waiting for the order, every minute feels long. With notifications on your phone:
- You know right away. A "Payment received" notification appears seconds after the payment succeeds, so you can process the order or reply to the buyer at once.
- No more checking again and again. You don't need to keep opening the dashboard just to see whether a new payment arrived.
- Harder to fool. Dishonest buyers sometimes send fake transfer screenshots. If no PAYWISE notification arrived, the payment has not come in, whatever the screenshot shows. See also how to stop fake transfer receipts.
- Your team knows too. Every team member who installs the app gets notifications for their own account, according to their role. See team roles and what each can do.
App notifications add to webhooks; they don't replace them. Your shop's system should still use webhooks to update orders automatically, while phone notifications are for you as the owner or your team.
Kinds of notifications and their sounds
Each kind of notification has its own channel and sound, so you can tell "money came in" from "support replied" just by the sound.
| Kind | Sound | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Payments | a double "cha-ching" | Payment received, settlement available |
| Withdrawals | three rising notes | Withdrawal approved, paid, rejected or failed |
| Support | a soft "pop" | Replies and messages from the PAYWISE team |
| Security | two short tones | New sign-in, password changed, API key created or revoked |
| Other | your phone's default sound | Announcements, daily summary, monthly statement |
You can turn off one kind without turning off the others. Open phone Settings → Apps → PAYWISE → Notifications and set each kind. For example, keep "Payments" loud and make "Other" silent.
How to install the PAYWISE app
The PAYWISE app is installed straight from our official website, not from the Play Store. It takes a few taps:
- Open paywise.asia/app in Chrome on your Android phone.
- Tap "Download for Android".
- Open the downloaded PAYWISE file. If Android asks, turn on "Allow from this source" for your browser. You are asked only once.
- Tap Install. If Play Protect shows a warning, tap "More details" and then "Install anyway". This warning appears for every app installed outside the Play Store; it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the PAYWISE app.
- Open PAYWISE, sign in, and tap "Allow" when asked about notifications.
That's it. To check that notifications work, open Notifications in the app. The "Notifications on this device" card should say On. Tap "Send test" and a test notification appears within seconds.
The app runs on Android 7 or later, which covers nearly every Android phone in use today.
Tips so notifications are never late
Some phone brands, especially those with aggressive battery savers, hold back notifications from apps that aren't open. If PAYWISE notifications feel late or don't arrive:
- Open Settings → Apps → PAYWISE → Battery saver and choose "No restrictions".
- On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, also turn on Autostart for PAYWISE.
- Make sure the phone isn't in Do Not Disturb or silent mode when you want to hear the sounds.
- Make sure you haven't signed out in the app. Signing out deliberately stops that phone from getting the account's notifications, so they never show on a phone you no longer use.
Handy features on your phone
Besides notifications, the PAYWISE app makes everyday work on a phone easy:
- Upload photos straight from the camera. When changing your shop logo or attaching a picture to a support ticket, pick a photo from the gallery or take one.
- Download reports. PDF reports and CSV transaction files are saved to your phone's Downloads folder, ready to open or share.
- Safe when the signal drops. If the internet connection is lost, the app shows a "No internet connection" screen and reloads the page by itself as soon as the internet is back.
- Pull down to refresh the page you are on, for example to see the latest transactions.
Updates without the hassle
Most changes to PAYWISE show up in the app with no update at all, because the app's content comes from the same PAYWISE system as the website. New dashboard features, design fixes and new texts appear right away.
An app update is needed only now and then, for example to add a kind of notification or fix something specific to phones. When a new version is out:
- The app shows "New version available". Tap Update.
- The update downloads in the background while you keep using the app.
- When it's done, tap "Install now", then Update on Android's screen.
You stay signed in after the update. Before installing, the app checks that the update file is exactly PAYWISE's official file. Android itself also refuses any update that isn't signed with PAYWISE's official key.
Links in emails open in the app
When the PAYWISE app is installed, account links in PAYWISE emails, such as a password reset link or a link to a transaction page, open straight in the app instead of the browser. General website pages such as articles and pricing still open in the browser.
Security: download only from paywise.asia
Because the PAYWISE app is installed from a file, there is one important rule to remember:
Download the PAYWISE app only from paywise.asia/app.
- Never install a "PAYWISE" file sent by WhatsApp, Telegram, a Facebook group or email, even if the sender claims to be the PAYWISE team. The PAYWISE team never sends app files by chat or email.
- A fake app can be made to look just like the real one in order to steal your password. When in doubt, delete the file and download again from paywise.asia/app.
- Once the real app is installed, Android refuses any fake version that tries to replace it.
The PAYWISE app also only opens PAYWISE pages inside it. Links to other sites always open in your phone's browser, so you always know when you have left PAYWISE. Learn about scams pretending to be PAYWISE support too.
If your phone is lost, sign in to PAYWISE from another device, open the Security page, sign out any session you don't recognise and change your password.
What about iPhone and computers?
An Android app file (APK) can't be installed on an iPhone. iPhone and iPad users keep using PAYWISE in Safari and can add it to the Home Screen so it opens like an app; the steps are on paywise.asia/app. On a computer, keep using PAYWISE in your browser as usual.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PAYWISE app free?
Yes. The PAYWISE app is free for all merchants, team members and sales partners. Using the app doesn't change your transaction or withdrawal fees.
Why isn't the PAYWISE app on the Play Store?
We share the app straight from our official website so updates reach you faster and you always get it from a clear source: paywise.asia. Because it is installed outside the Play Store, Android asks once to "Allow from this source", and Play Protect may show a warning or ask to scan the app. Both are normal for apps that don't come from the Play Store.
Do I need to sign up again in the app?
No. Use the same email and password as on the website. Your two-step email code, team role and permissions stay the same.
Do notifications still arrive when the app is closed?
Yes. Notifications are delivered through Android's notification service, so they appear even when the app isn't open. Make sure notifications are allowed and the battery saver for PAYWISE is set to "No restrictions".
Can one account be used on several phones?
Yes. Every phone you sign in on gets notifications for your account. If you sign out on one phone, only that phone stops getting them.
Does the app use a lot of data or battery?
No. Notifications are tiny, and the app only loads the pages you open. The app itself is under 2 MB.
I didn't get the test notification. What should I do?
Check three things: notifications are allowed for PAYWISE, the battery saver is set to "No restrictions", and you are still signed in in the app. If it still doesn't arrive, contact PAYWISE support and tell us your phone's brand and model.
